To those who walked with us in prayer and encouragement...

Our hearts are so deeply broken, and our lives will never be the same. John was a happy, tender, kind, courageous and honorable husband, father, son, brother, grandson, uncle, friend…and so much more! He has always provided comfort to our family as well as plenty of fun and laughs. John truly loved being an officer, and he would do it all over again - with no regrets. We will miss him dearly until we see him again in Heaven. We know this world is not our home, but this pain still hurts incredibly deep to the core. Our family is broken, but we will rejoice in sweet precious memories and the assurance that John is beside the Lord who loves him more than we ever could. John loved and was dearly loved – that is his legacy we will carry. Throughout the past week of battles, victories, joys, trials and prayers, the loving kindness and support has been amazingly beautiful and has forever humbled our family. If acts of kindness and love could have saved him, he would undoubtedly still be here with us. We do not understand, but we will learn to accept. John was a good man who lived a good life, so we consider our family blessed. He will continue to forever warm our heart and souls.

So much for a boring night...

So today is Thursday and John is here for it- yippee! He did have an eventful night. Late last night that made the decision to put him on temporary dialysis in an effort to protect his kidenys. He is very acidic from the meds and all the fluids are hard on his kidneys. Protecting them is important for his overall health and his long term health. His fever has come done since this procedure and that is encouraging. During the night they struggled with keeping his pressures in his brain steady. It is swelling and the handy brain bolt is a hot topic for the day. The trauma team expects these ups and downs and have prepared us but lets just clarify that we prefer the UPs. They did confirm he has a temproal lobe fracture, and a therasic fracture (which means the middle of his back), a few fractures in the pelvic area but some of that will just heal on it's own. The implications of those injuries will be better determined once he is stable enough for an MRI and he is more alert- oh how I wish we could that a patience pill. They are giving him plasma for breakfast this morning - not his favorie but a healthy choice.

He is still very ill and still critical but he is still here! He will have no memory of all of this drama so we are looking forward to sharing it with him one day. We encourage you to post comments so that we can read them to him when he is more alert. He is going to need a lot of encouragemnt and heckling to get through this - but getting through it is the goal!

  31. I can't remember the details & that's too bad because I remember the story you told in dispatch was hilarious. You pulled a prank on the kids and it was funny. We wagged our finger at you, dad, while we laughed. Was it Melissa that was singing in the shower when you came in? Did the shower curtain fall? You are a storyteller!

  33. I don't know John or his family, but I heard about the accident through a friend asking for prayers for him. I've been praying for him & the family. My father (an officer for H.P.D.) & I are going to donate blood tomorrow... my husband donated Christmas Eve & can give the voucher to someone in need of blood, so he logged into his online account through GCRBC today & listed John for it, so we hope that helps! We'll be continuing to pray.

    JD,

All our love is sent to you and your family. Our family holds you in continuous prayer and we praise God for bringing you this far through this valley and know that God continues to hold you in His hands and will complete that which He has begun in you. May God's peace surround you as you rest in the shadow of the Most High and let Him be your bulwark in this "time of trouble".

You and your family are on the prayer chains at our churches.

We love you and greatly appreciate Bridget keeping everyone informed as to your status. We can't wait to see your bright smile and hear your warm hello again!!
