To those who walked with us in prayer and encouragement...

Our hearts are so deeply broken, and our lives will never be the same. John was a happy, tender, kind, courageous and honorable husband, father, son, brother, grandson, uncle, friend…and so much more! He has always provided comfort to our family as well as plenty of fun and laughs. John truly loved being an officer, and he would do it all over again - with no regrets. We will miss him dearly until we see him again in Heaven. We know this world is not our home, but this pain still hurts incredibly deep to the core. Our family is broken, but we will rejoice in sweet precious memories and the assurance that John is beside the Lord who loves him more than we ever could. John loved and was dearly loved – that is his legacy we will carry. Throughout the past week of battles, victories, joys, trials and prayers, the loving kindness and support has been amazingly beautiful and has forever humbled our family. If acts of kindness and love could have saved him, he would undoubtedly still be here with us. We do not understand, but we will learn to accept. John was a good man who lived a good life, so we consider our family blessed. He will continue to forever warm our heart and souls.

Thursday in a nutshell...

He just got out of surgery and it went well. They were able to clean up what they needed to and he stayed stable. That is good news. He is still having issues with the pressure in his head and so the handy head bolt measuring device - just amazing what they can do - led them to wait on the arm and abdomen. His body is still fighting hard to adjust to all the trauma. There is a lot going on with him but he feels no pain and is just sleeping away! Today we made a little message book for him entitled, "While you were sleeping..." be sure and leave him a note if you are at the hospital. We are looking forward to reading him all the comments, cards, messages, entries, etc. when he wakes up. We are all so overwhelmed (the really good kind of overwhelmed) with the support we have received it has been just amazing. Every need is met before we even know we have it. We will all be about 20 lbs heavier when he leaves the hospital from being fed so well. We have not gone hungry and not had to once wonder what we would eat, drink, who we could visit with, where we could sleep - all good stuff. John is a good guy and he has good friends!

Another day at the hospital is on it's way, so we will put another check in the win column! Still lots of unknowns but the words of an old hymn keeping going through my head tonite - get your singing voices ready and sing along -" I don't know what tomorrow holds but I know who holds tomorrow." That is all we really need to know!!! Good night.

  12. Praise God that the "great healer" is obviously on John's case. It would also appear that the " father of all comfort" has been with all of you as well. I know both will continue to be the case. All of you, John in particular remain in my thoughts and prayers !

  15. To JD and the entire Norsworthy family,

We were so sorry to hear about the accident and the terrible injuries, but are so thankful that each day brings progess and promise of blessings to come. JD is a good man and we are all very fortunate that he and others like him do the dangerous kind of work that benefits us all.

You are a strong family and that strength and resilience will help JD pull through. Y'all all have a good sense of humor, too, and that is very healing thing, so let the optimism shine through and rejoice in every new day that the Lord gives to JD and to us all.

Bridget, thanks for this blog to help keep us all informed.

  18. It is amazing how many people are getting out the word to send a prayer John's way. Every time we share the story, they seem to have heard from someone else. This shows great tribute to the many lives that John has touched. Our good lord has seen what he has done and is surrounding him with his special angels of healing. You continue to be in our daily orayers and thoughts.

  20. oh my gosh I just realized (looking at the personal photos) that he has been out to help my neighbor and I was out there with the kids and talking to this officer! I donated regardless, but now there is just that connection. Weird because I don't really know him, but he was sooooo nice in a domestic violence situation. He was really nice to both parties and just seemed like such a good caring person! I have been following his story, but seeing a photo I recognize just broke my heart even more. I now can't even begin to feel the emotions that this family is feeling, because what I am feeling is so hard. But JD you get thru this!!! You are one of those guys that helps give cops the good name they deserve!!! You are one of the ones that speaks for the force and shows what they really are!! you help take away from whatever the bad ones happen to do-even though it's only those very few! they speak the loudest unfortunately! so we need you!! and all your buddies!!!

And your family needs you the most. Of all.
