To those who walked with us in prayer and encouragement...
Our hearts are so deeply broken, and our lives will never be the same. John was a happy, tender, kind, courageous and honorable husband, father, son, brother, grandson, uncle, friend…and so much more! He has always provided comfort to our family as well as plenty of fun and laughs. John truly loved being an officer, and he would do it all over again - with no regrets. We will miss him dearly until we see him again in Heaven. We know this world is not our home, but this pain still hurts incredibly deep to the core. Our family is broken, but we will rejoice in sweet precious memories and the assurance that John is beside the Lord who loves him more than we ever could. John loved and was dearly loved – that is his legacy we will carry. Throughout the past week of battles, victories, joys, trials and prayers, the loving kindness and support has been amazingly beautiful and has forever humbled our family. If acts of kindness and love could have saved him, he would undoubtedly still be here with us. We do not understand, but we will learn to accept. John was a good man who lived a good life, so we consider our family blessed. He will continue to forever warm our heart and souls.

Our Hearts and Thoughts are with you and your family. Alice Bauder

I can't imagine what the family is going through but know that JD is in a much more peaceful place and is hunting in the fields of Heaven right now. Words could not describe what a great friend, husband, father, and the man I looked up to will be missed. The words from Abraham Lincoln come toy thoughts and I hope it will in some way comfort you the this had time.
ReplyDeleteI feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.
I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom. A Lincoln
I am here for the family and friends. Please do no hesitate to call upon me.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
ReplyDeletebut first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

ReplyDeleteJD, you will be missed. My heart aches with this loss.
ReplyDeleteWorking out in the middle of no where, all it took was 1 call to you and you'd drive by and set up patrol to keep watch. I feel the world is a little less safe with this tragic loss. There's no one else like you JD. You're an amazing officer, friend, and person. You are loved.
I remember you bringing donuts to my pit on Skinner Lane as a joke after I ribbed you about the cop/donut thing. You said, "I took these from the station."
I remember the call that ya'll got in the night concerning a monkey on Skinner Lane (a man in a monkey suit) and you called me the next morning and asked if I returned my ape outfit!! Hahahah
I also remember you refusing to let me play with your taser gun! Meanie! I could've had fun! But you kept saying some nonsense about my boss being a good guy! Hahahahha
There is no other like you JD.

"The Final Inspection"
ReplyDeleteThe policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

ReplyDeleteDeath is so hard when the person who has passed on, would have given their life to anyone, and that's what they died doing, trying to protect and serve. Materialistic things can always be replaced, the memories of his dedication, love, and pleasure of being in service for the community will and can never be erased. We never know our time, or where we will be when God calls us home, so my challenge to everyone is to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord above. This should be a wake up call, lets use this as a lesson learned. God's comfort and peace be upon all who knew the deputy, but more prayers to those who knew him as a husband, father, brother, family and friend. You will be missed John ♥ Until we meet again

We are very saddened for your loss of a husband, father, brother, son, grandson, friend, brother in Christ, etc. We are moved with tears hearing of John's passing. We are continuing to pray for all of you, especially Melissa, Jacob, and Katie. We pray specifially that "God would grant them, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit into their inner man, that Christ may make His home in their hearts through faith(Eph3:16-17), and that they would find Him as their Rock, Boat, Comforter, and Servant in a new way in these days to come. Amen."
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I am impressed with this week in this situation is how God has brought together His children across this nation to be in one accord for and with this family. 1Cor12:25-27 says, That there would be no division in the body, but that the members would have the same care for one another. And whether one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or one member is glorified, all the members rejoice with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.
We love you in Him and will miss John immensely.

Our hearts go out to the Norsworthy Family with deepest sympathies in their time of loss.
-Chris (Jersey Village PD) and Rachel Murphy
I wanted to extend my deepest sympathies to you and your family. I've been following John's story since the blood drive. I lost my little brother 5 months ago and while everyone says they understand the hurt or the pain from that loss, no one really does. It's something people can try to imagine but never feel or understand. I tell myself everyday that my brother now has the best seat in the house up there with his heavenly father. The world will always shine less in our eyes because our loved ones have gone but the heavens have only gained more shine. I pray that you and your family do find comfort although I have no way to tell you how to get there because I'm still searching myself. I do know the search for it though is tough and long and draining, but if you keep your family close it helps tremendously. Deputy Norsworthy, you will be missed greatly. Rest with the angels now...

"He Answered The Call"
Today in the sun, I bid him farewell
A man, a hero, I never knew well
Like many before him, who answered the call
Wearing a badge, he was destined to fall
Though by choice a long life and a happy old age
Would he have chosen, had he written the page
But the office he chose never promised long life
Just half of his salary, for his child and his wife
He went without fear, into the darkness of night
Bringing comfort to some, to some others light
Easing their pain and calming their fears
He did his duty, never asking for cheers
A husband, a cop, he answered the call
We bid him farewell for he gave his all

If I had another minute with John, I would tell him:
John, we love you and will miss you, until we see each other in heaven again. You have been an inspiration for how and why to be a better man, husband, father, friend, son, and a better brother. You were always a leader, waiting on us. Today, you are a once again waiting on us, on the other side. Please tell God that your family will need his strength to get by without you. We do too, but I have already told him that. I have prayed for you and them, and will continue to pray for your family.

ReplyDeleteThough I did not know JD, I feel privileged to have been witness to his triumphs and trials through this blog. Thank you.
So sorry to hear this news, i was praying for him to pull through. From the outpouring of love on this blog and other places on the internet, I can tell Officer Norsworthy was a highly respected and loved friend, family member, and coworker. My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones. You will be reunited one day. this life is just temporary, you will have eternity together in heaven. :-)
ReplyDeleteMay The LORD'S comfort cover you all.
ReplyDeleteBridget, Melissa, and Family,
ReplyDeleteMy heart goes out to you as do my prayers for your comfort. John was one of the true Good Guys of this world and surely has a place in Heaven. There is a poem that I love that I hope brings you some peace...
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the stars of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

Out of Darkness
Suggested Bible Reading
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation, who consoles us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God. For just as the sufferings of Christ are abundant for us, so also our consolation is abundant through Christ. If we are being afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation; if we are being consoled, it is for your consolation, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we are also suffering. Our hope for you is unshaken; for we know that as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our consolation.
-2 Corinthians 1:3-7 (NRSV)
Today's Scripture
Jesus said, "What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim from the housetops."
-Matthew 10:27 (NRSV)
Story:
I was left alone with two young sons when my husband of 25 years died from a blood disease. He had been firmly confident that God would heal him. So when I received the message from the hospital that he had died, I broke down. My life seemed to fade into total darkness.
But "the God of all consolation, who consoles us in all our affliction" sent many friends to me, friends who had experienced the kind of sorrow that I was feeling. They said the right words and did the right things. Sometimes they only sat silently with me. These God-given friends made my life bearable. I learned that God uses people who have experienced pain and sorrow to console others whose despair is overwhelming them and robbing them of peace and joy.
When our heart is breaking, God meets us at the deepest level of our suffering and consoles us as only God can. And most often, God uses other people for this consoling work.
Ingrid A. Rönnberg
Prayer
Dear God of mercy, help us to trust in you when pain overwhelms us. Teach us how to console others in the ways you console us. Amen.
Thought for the Day
What we learn in the darkness God will use to bring light.
His days always began with a "10-41",
ReplyDeletehe was always ready to take on more crime.
The same routine for the past six years,
but he got used to it over time.
Day in and day out he gave it
his all and he did his best.
Never stopping to think that this could be
the last time he straps on his bulletproof vest.
Another day passes and once again
he has protected and served.
But never once really getting
the full recognition he deserved.
He had a full life but there was
so much left for him to do.
But on January 4, 2011, "4P130" made
his Final "10-42"
There are no words to express to help. Please just know that I am praying for all of you. I am so sorry.

Dear Bridget and the Norsworthy Family, I am so sorry for your loss. You all will reamin in my prayers. For those of us who have Peace Officers in our families, we know there may come a day of enormous tradgedy, but how honored we are to know they risk their lives each and every day to protect us and keep our streets safe. They are truly heroes in every since of the word. May God Bless each of you and keep you wrapped in His arms during this unbearable time and always.

ReplyDeleteWe've all been reflecting on memories with John and all I can say is that he was a genuinely great guy who loved his work, was devoted to Melissa and was a caring father. Those of us who worked with John knew he was one hell of a COP who always had your back. I can only think of good times with John and all the practical jokes and one-liners he would deliver. Our hearts go out to the extended Norsworthy family and especially to Melissa, Katie and Jacob. I pray that you find strength in God through this time of unbearable pain. Thank you to Bridget for keeping this blog and to all my brothers who keep me informed. God Bless You all!

My prayers and condolences go out to the family. RIP Deputy Norsworthy
ReplyDeleteI sit here and read all the post and it shows how truly JD was loved and will be missed.
ReplyDeleteI worked with him for 3 years and i can truly say everything everyone has said is true. I reflect back on the memories i have of JD and can say he is one very good cop and man. I would say he had a passion for everything he has done. I remember his unique country voice on the radio responding everytime he was called upon or responding to help others. In my 30+ years in law enforcement i have met very few officers/men like JD. He will be sorely missed. I take comfort in the memories i have of him. to Melissa and Family and Bridget i say in this time of sorrow and in the future to remember all the good things about JD and it will help to fill the void he will leave. I do believe GOD has a purpose for calling JD home and we do not understand, but ultimately we will all understand. Remember we are all family and will always be here for you.
Bless all of you.

Go and be in peace Cowboy you will be missed but never forgotten and we will always raise a toast in your memory I know because friends are always around in spirt watching us where ever we all are

Firefighters, EMT's, Paramedics, & Law Enforcement Officers of all kinds work the streets day & night to keep people safe. They are missing their family to care for yours. In 2010, there were 85 firefighters, 39 EMS and 160 police officers killed in the line of duty. Re- post this if you are a firefighter, EMT, Paramedic, or Law Enforcement Officer, love one, or appreciate one, or just take a moment to thank them...
ReplyDeleteThanks to all of you !

John Norsworthy was a great friend, and honorable cop, a good husband to his wife, and a good father to his children. Rest well my friend we will truely miss you my good friend.
ReplyDeleteTo Melissa Jacob, and Kaitlyn
I know this is the deepest and darkest time of your lives. Just know that the Lord Jesus Christ is watching over John now, and to rely on God in these difficult times. We may not understand why God decided to take John when He did, because our ways are not always His ways. Just always trust in the Lord , and know his will is perfect even if we do not like or under stand it.
For whatever reason God needed a lawman in Heaven. John was indeed a special lawman. He will missed by all that knew him.
ReplyDeleteHis family at home and his law enforcement family has indeed lost a special person.
As Deputy Don Worsham stated in his post, we don't understand the reason God has called him home but he has and there is not doubt a purpose for his calling.
We will all see JD again, but for the time being he is our Angel looking over us.

I just heard of Officer Norsworthy's passing on the 10pm news - and I feel like I've been punched in the stomach. I do not know him or the family, but have been following this blog since reading about the accident in the Chronicle. I was so hopeful for his recovery, and had been praying that he would be returned to his family. As others have posted, God needs him for some special assignment that we'll never understand. Just know that he suffers no longer, and he is at peace. May God Bless you all.
ReplyDeleteTo the Norsworthy family, please know that the community that John served and protected is grieving with you tonight. I am grateful to John for his service and will be praying for your family to find some comfort and understanding through all of this. Have faith in God's love.

I didn't know John here, but I look forward to meeting him in Heaven.

We had the opportunity to meet Officer John when he responded to our home on a call. He treated us like family. I will never forget him leaning across the kitchen counter talking with us and then telling us about his children and the pride that came through as he spoke of them. He loved his wife and his children and they need to know he talked about them to us in a such a loving way. I honestly will never forget this amazing man. God Bless his family always. The Fore's

I have been on this page a thousand times and just don't know how to express what I am feeling. I feel so blessed to have known John. He was one of the best guys I've ever known. A true gentleman! That's why we chose him and Melissa to be our daughters God Parents. I am sadded that he will not have the chance to meet our newest addition we are welcoming in Feb. Of course it's our kids that will be the ones missing out on not getting the chance to know him. He's love for Melissa and the kids was something us girls could only dream of. I remember us being down at our family ranch and Melissa was cooking and burnt her hand she made the smallest sound of pain and even though John is in the other room eating he heard that and it didn't take a nano second and he was by herside. It was one of the sweetest things I've ever seen. I will miss having him at our ranch. I will miss his stories he would tell. One of my favorites is he was on patrol and was driving around when he saw a another patrol officer and he hit his breaks to slow down and then thought to himself what am I doing I am in a patrol car too. That story still makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteJohn was a unbelievable husband, father and friend. My heart is breaking for Melissa, Jacob and Katlyn, his mom, his dad and sister Bridget. Well, really just everyone that was apart of his 39 wonderful years. Rest in peace my friend

ReplyDeleteWe can't begin to express how sorry we are for your loss.
